From the moment he slips on
his country's uniform
in his heart he takes more than the oath
to serve and uphold the Army's values
Remembering with hnor and humility
that he represents the best of the best
without reservations he is committed
to defend what he knows is right
in his heart and soul and in God's eyes

Carrying out a duty to his country
respecting the laws
and the people who obey them
Filled with courage to stand
for what he believes in
Without regard for himself,
protecting his family and all Americans
Standing strong, loyal to those
who serve beside him
and to those he serves
~
Whether standing in formation
among his comrades
two hundred soldiers strong;
keeping watch on duty;
or in church with his spouse
worshipping their Savior
~
With a career spanning
more than two decades long
his heart fills with pride as he
remembers places he's visited
many only dream about
He does not slip on American values
like a comfortable pair of jeans
He lives them every day

So proud to be a soldier
So proud to take the oath
to protect his country
Honored to travel the world
~
Trained for combat
and radio communication
He's positioned far behind battle lines
Courage, strength and pride
these aren't visible medals
he wears upon his jacket
of his camouflage battle fatigues
though he carries them within
each time he buttons his jacket
and laces his boots
~
His medals of achievement
they number quite a few
They mean more than achievement
to his wife and soul mate
They mean strength, courage and honor
~
With each tour of duty
bringing new rank promotion possibilities
and additional stripes to sew on the sleeve
of his dress blue and class A green uniforms
Each representing three years of service
~
Yes according to 'Uncle Sam'
he belongs to the best of the best
Standing guard when and where ever
he's called with a loaded rifle
and M9 at his side at the ready
With a lofe for the red, white and blue
he willingly take a stand
for all proud Americans
when freedom and liberty are threatened
He's my best friend,
my lover, my husband
